Quality Salmon Sotenäs gathered twelve industrial partners for a workshop

End of June, twelve industrial partners from several countries gathered for a workshop in Sweden to further develop Quality Salmon Sotenäs. The partner group also met politicians and officials from the Region Västra Götaland, from the Sotenäs and Munkedal municipalities as well as representatives of Business Sweden and Innovatum Science Park. 

The goal of the collaboration is to establish a circular industrial park for land-based salmon farming in Sotenäs municipality in western Sweden. The investment of between SEK 17 and 20 billion, would be the largest ever in the Swedish food industry. The planned production level is 100,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon per year. 

- This was the first time we were able to gather close to all partners, says Roy Høiås, CEO of Quality Salmon Sotenäs AB. Almost everyone had representatives on site and a couple participated digitally during our three days meeting.

Common for all partner companies, is a pronounced sustainability focus along with a very high level of innovation. Some of our partners have a hundred-year history or more. Most of them work with the entire world as a market and have annual sales of the equivalent of several billion Swedish kronor.

The partner group includes both companies in aquaculture products and companies that deliver services and services in energy supply, digitization/automation, production equipment, traceability and more. 

- This meeting was important for the continued work in several ways, states Roy Høiås.

- Our partners got to know each other better and they visited the site where the industrial park will be built. We also started talks on concrete matters regarding the development of the industrial park on a new and more detailed level than before.

- Furthermore, it was important that politicians and officials from the Region Västra Götaland, and from the Sotenäs and Munkedal municipalities, were given presentations that show the strength, competence, and importance of each individual partner. My feeling is that most of these politicians and officials were impressed by what they saw and heard. This industrial project has truly gathered the best of the best in each area of expertise.

- Yet another important aspect of the meeting, was that our partners got to meet representatives of Business Sweden and Innovatum Science Park who made it clear that this initiative receives support from society, both nationally and regionally. 

Like most parts of society, project development for Quality Salmon has been affected and delayed by the pandemic. During the summer and autumn, the work of producing material for the environmental assessment will continue. This proceeds in parallel with the continuing detailed planning work at the Sotenäs municipality.
